The Newest Flagstaff Tradition - Wine in the Woods : AZ Style
Mark your calendar for The Arboretum at Flagstaff's newest annual event:
Wine in the Woods: AZ Style
A wine festival featuring all things local. In partnership with Coconino County’s SEDI (Sustainable Economic Development Initiative), and showcasing local vineyards from the Verde Valley, this event will celebrate Arizona’s wine, food and music.
When?
Sep 15, 2013: 1 pm - 6 pm (Sun)
Where?
At 7,150 feet in elevation, The Arboretum at Flagstaff is a unique destination, specializing in plants native to the high elevation habitat of northern Arizona. This year is the first year of the Wine in the Woods festival.
How to get there?
A shuttle to and from The Arboretum will be provided! Please park at Gore at Woody Springs (click here for directions).
How Much?
$25 in advance; $40 day- of (includes 10 tickets for wine and food tasting and a complimentary wine glass); additional tickets are available at the event.

There’s Magic in the Fair at the 64th Annual Coconino County Fair bringing traditional fair exhibits and demonstrations, carnival rides, vendors, children’s activities, livestock shows and auction on Labor Day weekend. A wide variety of entertainment offers audiences with cultural presentations, local and regional acts, national headliners and educational experiences for the whole family.
The 64th Annual Coconino County Fair will house multiple family friendly events including, magicians, jugglers, ventriloquists, stilt walkers and entertainers such as Al Hurricane, A Flock of Seagulls, Atlanta Rhythm Section, Reverend Payton’s Big Band, over the Labor Day weekend, August 30-Sept 2.

Good Location, Embassy Suites always a Good Value
When traveling with children, Embassy Suites is always a good choice. We used this as our home base for sight seeing around Northern Arizona. The location was excellent with easy access to freeways and highways for the site seeing. Services like grocery stores, gas stations, Target and restaurants were in close proximity.
Manager's special in the afternoon was okay. But who would turn down complimentary bar drinks. The breakfast was great. It got really busy for breakfast during the weekend and the staff was exceptional. They hustled to clean up and keep food stocked. The chefs working the weekend kept their smiles even with the non-stop ordering of meals.
Coming from California, I was also not used to having smoking rooms and non-smoking rooms mixed in together on one floor. Eventually the smoke odor bothered me in the hallways.
One negative is that the walls are paper thin. The people below us got a fright I'm sure with the noise of my kids from above. I could hear my kids before I even reached the room. Sadly, I could also hear the cries of the baby next door during the evening and they were my wake up call as well in the morning.
All in all an average Embassy Suites.

This hotel met all of our family needs. We stayed just one night following a visit to the Grand Canyon. We visited the Lowell observatory and the hotel was very close to the observatory. The breakfast was great! The hotel provides made to order eggs as well as a buffet for those in a hurry. We used the hotel guest laundry which worked well but at the time of our visit only one of two dryers were working. This caused a bit of a back up which could have been avoided if both were in working order. A nice place to stay in Flagstaff.

Good: Beds and breakfast were great! Nice selection and good food.
Location Tip: Flagstaff is 200 miles North of Phoenix and provided a great relief from the city heat. It rained, but it freshened everything at a cool 70 degrees!
Went to Flagstaff on business and it felt like a vacation because of our hotel! Third-floor Suite had great space and wonderful beds. Everyone got lots of rest and were truly energized. The Made-to-order Omelet bar was fantastic and it even had pancakes. Staff was very efficient and kept everyone well supplied with the food items, despite the weekend crowds in the dining room at peak hour. Happy Hour and snacks were great too. Met some very nice guests as well. Wanted to stay an extra day but had to get back to the office.
Can't wait to visit again! Thanks Embassy Suites. You're the BEST.

.Set in a natural forest bowl at the heart of Fort Tuthill County Park in Flagstaff, Arizona makes the. acoustics perfect for a unique outdoor entertainment experience. Pepsi Amphitheater'sl structure blends and complements the natural Flagstaff environment.
Since its grand opening in May 2006, the Amphitheater has been recognized as Northern Arizona’s largest outdoor venue. Flagstaff’s elevation also makes it the ideal place for spring, summer, and fall concerts and events. The general operating season runs from April through October. The Amphitheater has a capacity of 2,100 general admission lawn seats and 650 fully covered orchestra seats. Camping is also available onsite through the Fort Tuthill County Park Campground for special events and festivals.
Initiated by the county’s lead environmental and natural resources department, Parks and Recreation, conscious efforts are made in terms of energy conservation and environmental sustainability. It is landscaped with native plants that require less water. Natural lighting is optimized in the enclosed rooms. The Amphitheater promotes outdoor activities as it is linked to Flagstaff Urban Trail System and trails along Fort Tuthill County Park — Bridge, Soldiers and Highland. There is also a bike rack to encourage people to ride their bike around the facility and the park.
In 2011, Coconino County Parks & Recreation partnered with R Entertainment North to manage the Amphitheater, bring quality and unique entertainment opportunities, and propel tourism and economic development for Coconino County.

During the coming months, Texans gladly spend double on their electric bill, avoid getting in a vehicle for fear of melting, and require swimming pools be present at any daytime activities. Now, if you give a Texan a swimming pool, he’s gonna want some ice cream immediately afterwards. Don’t question this statement; it is a proven scientific fact. I see the shift take place every summer; the level of ice cream consumption in Austin skyrockets. Everywhere you turn kids are wiping tears away with their sticky fingers over a toppled ice cream cone. I get it. I would cry too if I had as little dexterity as they do. Ice cream is a big deal. Just yesterday I traded in my running shoes for a chocolate dipped soft serve at Sandy’s. Speaking of ice cream, this infographic really spoke to me, recognizing not just one, but two Texas cities in the “Top Ten U.S. Ice Cream Consuming Cities.” The only qualm I have with this infographic is that Blue Bell Creamery is missing.
